Japanese Autumn Festival – Cosplay Competition 2012

This event took place in Gurney Plaza, Penang last Sunday.

Was fortunate enough to finish my costume in time and paticipated in the solo category cosplay competition ^^

(Photos were taken by friends and other photographers so credits goes to respective owners.)

Me amongst the participants on that day ^^V

Cosplaying as Tender Shall from Dream of Doll~ Was a risky decision since I do not have porcelain pale skin nor the typical doll figure (Body shape, ahems*)

But since I really like the outfit and the character, I decided to give a try. XD

Had to admit the process of creating the garment was excruciatingly difficult, since it’s FULLY handsewn.. . (For inexperience me, plus the sewing machine at home spoilt, thus giving me a hard time!)

At the end of the day though, I had to admit this was the most satisfying costume I’ve done so far~ Will touch more on the cost and making details when I have time!

Various poses~ I guess I have more to practice on that ><

And the results from the competition?? ~~~ *jeng jeng nervousness …

1st Prize on Solo Category~!!! Was extremely thrilled when the emcee announced my number o><o

I thought the other cosplayers were all amazingly talented too, so I’m just really lucky to have the honour on the placing~

2nd Runner up goes to Sera as Miku of Vocaloid, and 1st Runner up Akie as Madame Red of Kuroshitsuji.

TOTAL OUT OF CHARACTER MOMENT – for the trios when after the exciting announcement of our solo wins,

we were also announced as the consolation winner for the group category as well. (We all know there’s only 5 groups, so it’s obvious we’re getting something out of that …)

But still it was surprising as ever! Since our group was last minutely formed (Through drawing lots as solos)  and we had like less than 30mins to get ready a short performance for the judges and audiences. So we did a dance on Shoujo S by Scandal~

Literally yay-ed and hugged like no one’s business up there~ FYI, we weren’t close at all before the competition. Funny how as fellow contestants, there wasn’t exactly a competing barrier between us through the whole event.

Photo credits to Mr Allen who caught our epic wackyness just in time~

Meet the emcee from Japan, Airu-san~

Had to ditch his Mcflurry aside to join this pic for us, gomene ^^”

Top 3 winners and our loot~ Cash vouchers from Parkson and Japanese Food hampers!

Worn out look at the end of the day ^^” (The obvious orange tint at the eyeliner tails and pink blush faded >.<)

It’s the first time I worn lenses, and straight away for like 6 hours. Another risky act of the day~ But I like the changes of course XD

Very happy day indeed! And to Sharon of course, I’ve said this many times but THANKsss again, from all the way: Transport, last minute ‘prop’, fitting, photos, skit recording, McD beverage, and my critical stripe(s) accident savior …. >.< ! Without you, many of these happy possibilities might not happen X)

Dining @ Sushi Kitchen, Penang.

This was roughly more than a week ago …

I was back home in Penang for the Aidil Adha short mid-sem break, so I tagged along  was invited by my bro’s gf, along with mommy dearest and my baby bro to this hidden little haven~

I seriously didn’t know where I was brought to! *chuckles Only knew it was gonna be very near the airport, Bayan Lepas. (Which is pretty far away if you’re a Penangite, and if you know the horror of weekend jams, and yea, I live somewhere near Gurney Drive area.)

The stairs to the small, comfy haven (Stairway to heaven, lols?)
<3 it right from the entrance! The narrow stair’s walls were cramped with IDK how much media reviews and great customer feedbacks!

We ordered food right away! It was lucky that sissy-in-law did a reservation before we came~

Oh, this is a rare place that serves VEGETARIAN JAPANESE FOOD by the way. Do not be intimidated by the vegetarian statement though. Most of us are prejudice with the word and commonly associated the term with YUCKY BLANT FOOD, NO PROTEIN AND UNHEALTHY, MAKES YOU WEAK etc….

A healthy vegan diet can be maintain if you eat it the right way! Trust me, it’s not BAD at all~

Plus I really like the idea that vegetarian and saving-da-earth is mutual, so why not? Winking smile

So, to the foodie! We ordered some of these as our first time trial~ Sorry for not remembering the menu and the item’s name Smile with tongue out I’ll roughly do some intro based on the ingredients I remembered, and short reviews of course ^^

Assortments of vegetarian sushi! Ingredients that I remembered being Inari, vegetarian floss, edamame, fresh veges, seaweed etc.

Very delicious and goes to prove that sushi isn’t all bad without salmon and tuna >.<

STAWBERRIES SUSHI! Gotta be one of the most unique blend I’ve encountered in sushis so far! ^o^
Remembered how we’d ask the waiter about the taste and how he persuaded us it wasn’t weird at all.

Indeed, I really LOVE this~! (In fact I’m craving for one right now ><)
It’s a marvelous combination of fresh strawberries, vege floss, cucumbers, mayo and black sesame. Being a huge fan of both strawberries and sushi, this dish caught me at heart point~! *scrumptious~!

Respective main dishes: Assorted fried rice and noodles in vege gravy. I’ve read the restaurant’s policies and found out that they use fresh ingredients soaked in enzymes to dismiss the presence of pesticides. So the vege dishes served here are really a delight!

My beverage of the night: Honey nutmeg something, *sorry Smile with tongue out

It has a tinge of enzymish taste with typical cool nutmeg juice. Much to my likes too, of course.

The atmosphere:

This place must’ve been one of the most comfy place I’ve dine in my humble experiences …

Literally spacious enough to move around, clean, nice soft music playing through the whole dining experience, good lighting, polite waiters, well-behaved customers (This is up to visiting luck though…) and most of all, the oldies deco <3 !!

As you can see, lots of old-things, and lots of URNS, HAHA!
My mom loves them, she calls them ‘kiam chai ang’. Says there used to be lots of them back in her old kampung days down south in Pontian.

There are plenty of books and magazines displayed for reading too~! Lighting is pretty soft and nice, I didn’t use flash for these photos, so it’s just as it is…

Even outside views were extraordinary! Those are real plants by the way. I’m surprised by how well they’re tended with the limited space. (There’s not even a verandah outside. Just enough space to hang and simple racks to hold them from the second floor.)

Wanna know what’s in the decent, vintage refrigerator?

TADAAA~! COMICS! What a cute way to display these collections!

Huge thanks again to sis-in-law who intro and drove us all the way up to this place!

And for the treat too <3 Would love to come here again with the family ^^

(To add, we dine on the cleanly cushioned wooden floors. The place is cozy and air-conditioned. You may opt to sit on conventional dining tables and chairs too.)

For reservations and business hours, may try to contact them via the facebook page, details are there~

Might wanna book a place before you visit to avoid dissapointment Winking smile
